I'd always wanted to be an ambassador or a diplomat, perhaps working at the United Nations or an embassy, so that I could contribute to making the world a better place. But because of other careers I had pursued, I finally realized one day that this just wasn't going to happen.
I wasn't as disappointed as one might have expected, because by then I'd realized that I could still make a significant difference, if I was willing to pray. And I mean seriously pray about what needed healing in the world. Even about international situations that seemed so looming and so overwhelming. I've now come to the conclusion that praying is the most powerful contribution I can make, because prayer is empowered by the most potent force in the universe—God.
That insight is what spurs me to pray every day about events in my community and the world. And this prayer has broadened my view of that world. Instead of the world being something "out there," to which I'm not connected, my prayers are directed to what I now see as my family—my extended, global family. And what's even better is that I've met more and more individuals who have made the same commitment to pray for world healing. Sometimes we pray together.
