Sunday School voices

From the October 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I went to Sunday School in Boston for 18 years, and I found every year to be incredible. Sunday School was the place I could go every week to ask questions, pray with a group, and actively engage in what I was learning. When I was a teenager, Sunday School was one of the most important things I had in my life. It allowed me to grapple with problems I was facing, it allowed me to talk openly about peer pressure, and it allowed me to listen to the ideas and problems of those similar in age to me. I made some wonderful friendships in Sunday School, which I'm sure will last a lifetime. But most importantly, through those friendships, I was able to make connections that allowed me to feel that I wasn't alone in what I was experiencing, and that the issues I was dealing with weren't unique to me.

I love going to Sunday School because it has helped me discover my spiritual selfhood. We are taught how to feel close to God and how we can pray to Him and He will answer our prayers. From the day I started to go, I have had so many healings. I once had a toothache, and by reading Science and Health together with the Bible I was healed of that. I also had a healing on my upper jaw which was always bleeding and very painful, and when I read the Christian Science textbook I got healed. My Sunday School teacher is teaching me how to cope with sickness, death, and other kinds of troubles.
