After his father was healed of long-term stomach pains as a result of reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, Martyn Auret, then ten years old, was packed off to Christian Science Sunday School in Johannesburg, South Africa, every week. What he learned there stayed with him. At every crossroads during a successful 18-year career in the electrical engineering industry, Mr. Auret held to a simple prayer, “God, use me as You know best.” His lean-on-God humility brought him clarity, direction, and purpose, plus ample provision for his family. In 1968 he launched his life career as a Christian Science practitioner. Eight years later, Auret became a teacher of Christian Science, and every year since has offered a 12-lesson how-to class on spiritual healing. He has also lectured widely, giving public talks as a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship in South Africa, England, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Singapore, and India. Auret works out of his home in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, atop the savannahlike plateau that rises nearly 6,000 feet above the Indian Ocean. I spoke with him recently via telephone.
That's really kind of the golden thread in your life, isn't it, Martyn—the simple prayer, “Father-Mother, use me the way You want.”
Yes, it taught me great lessons about unselfed love, about getting personal sense out of the way and being God-centered.
