Sandy, you live in Southern California where some serious fires occurred in residential areas around the end October last year. Lots of people from all over California—maybe all over the country—wanted to help. What kinds of organizations and individuals made themselves available to respond to those in need?
These circumstances weren't of the same proportion as the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001, but things were still pretty serious. People reached out in much the same way as they did during 9/11. So many organizations stepped forward: The Red Cross, Salvation Army, community centers, schools, and churches of all denominations—from the Muslim community, Jewish synagogues, various Christian churches—everyone wanted to help.
