ABOVE THE FRAY—and STAYING THERE

From the April 2007 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THIS MONTH Christians around the world rejoice because of Easter—the timeless, inspiring celebration of Christ Jesus' resurrection from the grave, and later his ascension entirely out of the material world. Through these events, Jesus proved for all time that life never ends. In fact, his resurrection from the tomb showed unequivocally that his source, and our source, divine Life itself, constantly refreshes, inspires, and nurtures each of us as we progress on our own spiritual paths—now and for all eternity.

Today our own mini—resurrections occur daily, hourly, as we learn to rely on divine Life to energize and restore our lives, to lift us out of matter-based thinking, to lead each of us to our final resurrection, like Jesus, out of all material belief.

When life takes unexpected and sometimes downward turns, we can expect an ongoing restoration to our natural state of serenity, good health, equilibrium, and harmony. Thousands of years ago, the prophet Joel reassured his listeners of this sacred promise—"I [God] will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten" (2:25). As the following writers show, this sacred promise continues to comfort and sustain people across the globe. Easter doesn't happen just once a year. Resurrection isn't just a one-time thing. Rather, God brings us constantly into a season of renewal. Into a continuously revitalized and inspiring New Season.
