READINGS ON A RECENT Wednesday at our branch church included beautifully arranged citations from the Bible and from Science and Health, paralleling the Beatitudes with the tenets of Christian Science. It was such an uplifting correlation and reminded me of a healing that had taken place six years earlier.
I had been suffering all day from alarming symptoms of a hereditary respiratory illness that had challenged me seasonally since I was a child. My study of spiritual truths had become listless as the symptoms worsened. As I struggled with the temptation to just give in to the problem, my husband walked through the room and gently commented, "Looks like you could use a prayer." Instead of my being offended by this statement, it roused me to realize, I have a prayer—the Lord's Prayer!
On page 16 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy wrote, "Our Master said, 'After this manner therefore pray ye,' and then he gave that prayer which covers all human needs." And further down the page she added that understanding this prayer "... instantaneously heals the sick." The message could not be any clearer.
