From the January 2009 issue of The Christian Science Journal

1. An avid Bible scholar, Sara Gallant takes special interest in searching both the Old and New Testaments in their original languages. Her aim? To find the original spiritual interpretations that have been muted or lost through the ups and downs of doctrinal history, transmission of texts, and translations. Sara also revels in the great outdoors and cultural life of mid-coast Maine, where she lives with her husband, Tom. Read her Bible Forum piece, "Map Quest." Page 10.

2. "I had given little thought to the effect curiosity might have on one's spiritual growth." observes Christian Science healer and teacher Don Griffith. In his article for this issue, Don asks us to look closely at what's motivating our daily thinking—the desire to be pulled into the human mind's fascination with itself—or the desire to be influenced by divine Mind's guidance. See his Deep Think article, "Curious or ... ?" Page 25.

3. Ariana Herlinger's love for the African people—especially African youth—began when she volunteered for two years in the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa, where she worked for a program promoting girls' education and empowerment. She also served for eight months as a trainer for the Peace Corps in Niger. Today Ariana works with TMC Youth and Christian Science churches and CSOs throughout Africa to organize youth summits in their areas. Read her report on the most recent of these youth gatherings, "True Pioneers." Page 54.
