LESSONS FROM GETHSEMANE

THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE lies east of Jerusalem on the western slope of the Mount of Olives. Jesus' experience at Gethsemane was one of the first Bible stories I read as a child. To me, it was heart-wrenching that despite all the good he did for others, Jesus suffered alone in Gethsemane. Not even his own disciples, who had directly benefited from his teachings and had personally witnessed Jesus' marvelous works, had the strength to help him when he most needed them. I longed to understand Jesus' experience at Gethsemane. What were the lessons for me? How could Jesus' experience give me a foundation for my life? Here are three of the lessons that have helped me.
