SQUARE ONE

From the January 2009 issue of The Christian Science Journal

GREETINGS OF THE NEW YEAR! WHAT A TREMENDOUS FUTURE WE all have in store! As we look back over the last year—and look forward to 2009—we feel profound gratitude for the continuing good that divine Love brings to each of us individually, and to our dear Christian Science Publishing Society.

And as we prepare to launch into our next year of publication, we are acutely aware that the world faces changes and transitions that will surely challenge governments, communities, businesses, families, and each one of us in our daily life. The one constant, though, that everyone can count on remains the rock—the cornerstone—the foundation of all life: the Science of being. True, technology races ahead of all of us, and advances in countless arenas have brought new vistas, new ways of communication, new patterns of living throughout the world. But can anything shake the Principle of the universe? In a word: No. Divine Love can never alter or change. And that means that Christian Science, the eternal laws of divinity, will never waver, never change. Yet, in this new century, and in this new year, how do we, the adherents of this Scientific way of life, share the message of Christian healing with the world?

Beginning this month, the Journal will explore the theme "Christian Science in the 21st Century." First, we'll spend January, February, and March delving into Church (Church with a capital C—the spiritual idea) and church with a lower-case c (the institution itself).
