FOR MANY YEARS, Christian Science has benefited me spiritually, as well as emotionally and physically. Among the many physical healings I've experienced since learning of Christian Science as an adult, are a medically diagnosed liver condition, epilepsy, an abscessed tooth, a leg infection, and a smoking habit. One healing that I am especially grateful for took place a couple of years ago when I became free of an obsessive habit that had started when I was in my teens.
From that early age, I incessantly picked at my skin. This caused deep and unsightly wounds over different parts of my body, and sometimes infection, which I would regularly cover up with band-aids. On one occasion I was sent home from school by authorities who thought the condition might be contagious, with the instructions that I be readmitted only if I obtained a doctor's certificate, verifying that the condition was not contagious. My parents of course complied with the request.
Years later, while working in the business world, I learned of Christian Science and readily accepted its teachings. Later, I took Christian Science class instruction, which taught me how to pray for myself. I would pray earnestly to be freed from this enslaving habit, but I never completely overcame it.
