ONE AFTERNOON a few years ago, I fell headlong down a flight of concrete stairs, hitting my head very hard against the cement balustrade. I literally saw stars. As I fell, I made every effort I could to stop myself from rolling all the way to the bottom of the stairs. My husband rushed to my aid when he heard me cry out. He helped me upstairs so I could lie down, as I felt quite bruised and shaky.
The first thoughts that came to me were two phrases from Science and Health: "Accidents are unknown to God ..." and "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (p. 424). These spiritual facts quieted my thought. When we reached the upper level, my husband looked at my face and could see that I had bitten through my lip. He cleaned the wound, and the bleeding stopped almost immediately.
My husband is not a Christian Scientist, but he has always been supportive of my study and practice of Christian Science. Over the years, he has witnessed a number of healings through prayer that my two sons and I have experienced.
