CHILD FREED OF EARACHE

From the October 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

EARLIER THIS YEAR when the summer school vacations started, my six-year-old daughter stayed at my parents' house for a few days. While I was visiting them, she started to cry late one night and said that her ear was aching. My parents were concerned and told me that maybe she should be taken to a doctor. But it was very late, and there were no local doctors to call over.

I decided to take my daughter home, a mile or so away. Once home, I asked her whether she wanted me to pray for her, and she agreed. Having witnessed many healings for myself and my family, I was used to relying on prayer for all our needs. My daughter was accustomed to this, as well. So as she sat next to me, I began to pray. I started by knowing that this condition could be fully healed through prayer and that it did not depend on my ability, but on the infinite ability of God. Then I told her I'd read to her from her book My Treasury—a collection of articles, poems, and testimonies of healing for children, taken from the Christian Science periodicals. She loves it, but I love it, too. The reason I love it is because basic truths and their practicality are explained in a very simple manner through actual experiences. I opened the book at random and came across this poem titled "Omnipresence" by Sue Tyler (p. 14):

I know that God is where I am—
Beneath, around, above,
Providing, guarding, guiding,
Encircling me in love.
