YOUR QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Following the example set by the question-and-answer columns in the early Journals, when Mary Baker Eddy was Editor, this column will respond to general queries from Journal readers—such as the one above—with responses from Journal readers. You'll find information at the end of the column about how to submit questions.

YOUR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

From the March 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Why did God need us? If God is perfect and complete, why did He need to create man?—A READER IN MARYLAND

A1 Looking perplexed and a little sad, a student in my college/career class in Sunday School burst out, "If God is infinite and fills all space, where is there room for me?" It was a poignant plea to know she was not only loved, but needed.

This important question points to the natural desire we each have to know our individual worth. One of the basic teachings of Christian Science is that man, the image and likeness of God including male and female, is just as essential to God as God is to man. God gives, man expresses.
