ANNOUNCEMENT

From the Christian Science Board of Directors

From the June 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Announcement of New Readers

THE ANNUAL ELECTION of officers of The Mother Church by the Christian Science Board of Directors, called for in the Church Manual, will take place this year on Monday, June 7, prior to the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church. We want to let you know in advance of our intent to elect new Readers, because such a significant change involves many practical transition issues and requires the services and support of a number of employees to complete details before the Readers begin Annual Meeting week. As preparations for the June transition in Readers begin in earnest, we want to ensure that information about this important activity be accurately communicated from the beginning. (See our brief notice in the March 22, 2010, issue of the Christian Science Sentinel.)

It is with delight that we announce our intent to elect Karl (Sandy) Sandberg, CSB, of Norwell, Massachusetts, and Marian English, CSB, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, as First and Second Readers of The Mother Church respectively for the June 2010 to June 2013 readership term.

Sandy's service to The Mother Church began in 1967 when he entered the Church's Chaplain Training Program. After serving as a Chaplain in the United States Army, he became listed as a practitioner in the Journal in 1981. He became a teacher of Christian Science in 1988. He has served the Church in many capacities, including service as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship; as Vice President, President, and Teacher of the Board of Education; and as guest Reader for services at The Mother Church.

Marian's early religious training was in the Methodist Church. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, where she majored in modern languages, journalism, and English composition. She served on the Christian Science Board of Lectureship for nine years, followed by a term as President of The Mother Church for one year. Marian has had 20 years of Christian Science healing practice in the Colorado Springs area and has contributed many articles to the Christian Science periodicals.

We express much gratitude and deep appreciation for the current First and Second Readers of The Mother Church, Curtis Wahlberg and Elizabeth Schaefer, as they complete their terms. Their consistent, dedicated contribution in sharing the message of Christian Science has blessed the congregation, community, and world. This verse from a loved hymn describes what they've so faithfully carried out:

Go forward then, and as ye preach
So let your works confirm your speech,
And prove to all with following sign
The Word of God is power divine.
In love and healing ministry
Show forth the Truth that makes men free.

(Violet Hay, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 12)
