Let go—and let God guide

From the October 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To me, the idea of renewal is always pertinent, whether it’s the beginning of a new year or a new day. It’s great to know that you can ask God to help you at any time and go to Him for your daily spiritual baptism, where He can wash away any concerns, sins, or sickness.

A few years ago when I was in college, my friends and I were preparing our thoughts for a busy day of rehearsal. One of the dancers shared an acrostic poem that spelled out GUIDANCE, forming the words “God U and I DANCE.” This simple idea was so helpful to me as I prepared for our rehearsals that day; I knew God would be guiding me and my friends along in our dancing.

If you have ever participated in partner dancing, you know that you have to let your partner move you. If two dancers are both trying to lead, then you end up with a sloppy, stepping-on-toes mess. Similarly, when we “dance” with God in our thoughts, we have to let Him lead. We have to give our worries, wants, and desires over to Him and let Him move us where we need to go.
