How has your life been inspired by Mary Baker Eddy’s? To launch this series, we’ve asked about 15 people around the world for their thoughts and experiences. Most are Christian Scientists, though some come from other religious faiths and have recently encountered Mrs. Eddy’s ideas and achievements. There’s an element of discovery in each of these spiritual journeys—of a 19th- and early 20th-century woman who had the courage to publicly preach Christ Jesus’ whole gospel message, including the demand to heal through prayer. They also discovered someone who wrote extensively on the divine laws she perceived as elemental to Jesus’ healing record.
This month we turn to three people with quite diverse backgrounds. Ella Grande is a Christian Science practitioner in Baguio City, in the northern Philippines. Makengo Ma Pululu’s life has taken him from a refugee camp in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the country’s capital, Kinshasa, and a busy practice as a Christian Science healer and teacher. And David Nartonis does historical research in the fields of theology, philosophy, and culture; his articles have appeared in various scholarly journals.
Beginning with this year’s July issue, the series will feature volunteered contributions from Journal readers around the world. Submissions have already begun to arrive. To be considered for the series, your offering needs to reach us by March 1. Please keep your essay fairly brief, around 400 words or less, so that we’ll be able to publish several each month through December.
