For more than 11 years, I’d be overcome by allergy symptoms whenever I visited my in-laws for our annual family reunion, where there would be dogs. I did pray, but, even though the symptoms were so aggressive, I thought that since it was only for a short time each year, I could suffer through it. As much as I love my family, I would fear our yearly vacation.
Then an unrelated incident happened. I was to meet with someone who in the past had tried my patience. They’d complain, think only of themselves, and be very inconsiderate.
Just before meeting this person, I asked God to give me a different view of the situation. I didn’t like being resentful and wanted to move beyond my petty thinking.
