Getting the real news

From the October 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal


During the past year, editorial and publishing personnel at The Christian Science Monitor have been seeking a deeper understanding of the unique purpose of the Monitor. We revisited Mary Baker Eddy’s vision and how that’s been carried out during more than a century of Monitor journalism. And we surveyed the ever-changing ways 21st-century readers are accessing and using news.

Conclusion: Our original and ongoing mission is to help Christian Scientists and as many others as possible think more clearly about the world, share the good news of the here-and-now kingdom of heaven, and work for the progress of mankind.

Here’s how one staff member, assistant national news editor Mark Sappenfield, came to see the Monitor’s unique role in helping humanity:
