About a year ago, I fell on hard tile. A few days later, I began to sense what I thought might be some broken ribs. Each respiration brought an audible shift in the ribs, which was alarming to me. Lying down in bed brought sharp pain on one side. Finding a position to fall asleep was almost impossible.
I began to pray as I had been taught in Christian Science. I affirmed there could be no accidents to interfere with spiritual perfection (see Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 424). I concentrated my thought on my unbroken relationship with my Father-Mother God, knowing I am God’s beloved child. I also applied other healing truths found in Christian Science, as they came to mind.
Only by my sticking with a cherished phrase from the book of Psalms in the Bible, “Be still, and know that I am God” (46:10), would sleep follow, which it always did despite the anguish I was feeling. This tender provision for rest amidst the ordeal continues to be a source of wonder to me.
