Testimonies of Healing

Healed after a fall

From the March 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

On Super Bowl Sunday early last year, as I was entering church for the service, I tripped on the icy sidewalk and fell heavily, landing full-force on my face. I had no time to brace myself for the fall—in fact, I hadn’t even felt the sensation of falling—and heard a loud crunching sound in my head.

As I lay on the ground, stunned and in pain, I prayed. I began praying even before I could begin to move because my study of Christian Science has taught me to turn quickly to God, to listen for the guiding, protecting “angels of His presence” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 512).

I decided to take a mental stand by insisting that there couldn’t be any effect from something that was not real to begin with—the whole belief of an accident—because it was not created by the one, good God. I made a quick and definite decision to “rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good” (Science and Health, p. 393), and picked myself up both mentally and physically. A church friend who was ushering came to assist me, as did others, and I was able to stand.
