When I was in high school, tennis was a big part of my life. I competed on my school’s varsity team all four years, and during some off-seasons I helped manage the boys’ tennis team. (The boys’ season was in the spring, whereas I competed during the girls’ season in the fall.)
“Managing” the boys’ team essentially meant assisting the coach at practices. This included helping run drills, playing practice games with the team, and participating in drills the coach ran.
One day, during one particular drill, my knee twisted in an unnatural way as I was running back on the court to return a lob. I immediately fell. Team members and the coach quickly came over and helped me get to a bench so I could sit. I was at a school for Christian Scientists, and the team and coach shared helpful ideas from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. I was so grateful for this support.
