Many years ago, my family and I were far away from home, spending some time in beautiful Victoria, Australia. A few days into this lovely trip I was faced with an internal difficulty. I began feeling unwell, and a couple of days later I wasn’t able to get out of bed without assistance.
My husband had business meetings every day, and he was only available at night to help with our little one. We were both exhausted. My son was two years old at the time and was being such a good boy. The staff at the hotel where we were staying were so kind and were doing all they could to help us. In fact, they found a nanny to take care of our son, and we booked another room for them in the hotel. We saw this help and care of our child as a lovely answer to prayer.
But as the days went on, I seemed to be getting worse. The hotel staff became concerned and urged me to go to the hospital. Early one morning I called my mother in the United States. It was evening for her, and she answered the call so sweetly. I simply asked her to sing hymns to me. She did this three nights in a row, singing each of Mary Baker Eddy’s seven hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal. Such patience and love! I still tear up when I think about it. The words of these hymns brought me such comfort.
