Two articles in the September Journal have moved me forward in my “public practice” of Christian Science. In the Board of Lectureship’s report from Annual Meeting 2017, a German woman relates how she broke through her reluctance to share Christian Science, thanks to the Bible verse Romans 1:16. Now she tries “to think, every time when I get in contact with someone, now I have the possibility to share Love, Truth, and Life with them.” I’ve caught that same enthusiastic spirit from her, and what a release and relief from the self-inflicted bondage of feeling restricted from sharing!
Dovetailing beautifully with the above is Susan Tish’s “Offer to help—offer your prayers,” where the author recounts part of her journey in overcoming a hesitation to offer to pray for people who appear to be “yearning for comfort and healing.”
One important point Susan mentions is that “Christian Science treatment is not the only way to pray,” although of course it can be offered where appropriate. I resonated with this article, and feel more confident now about asking people if they’d like me to pray for them.
