Testimonies of Healing

Pull to ‘give up’ resisted

From the December 2017 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Life at my workplace had become increasingly challenging. As manager, I oversaw a team that coordinated a project for a major corporation, and I started to feel overwhelmed by its demands and deadlines. I also began to feel physically unwell. I had lost my appetite and felt uncomfortable all over.

While I was out sick that week, I decided to get in touch with a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. As the week progressed, it didn’t seem as if my health was being restored. The practitioner steadfastly encouraged me and continued praying the entire time.

By midweek, I felt like giving up, as I still wasn’t feeling any better. A subtle suggestion to give in to the illness came to thought: “Well, I could just fall into a deep sleep and be done with the whole matter!” Soon after that, I had a long nap, and when I awoke, at first I thought I had passed on. I remember thinking that where I was sure seemed similar to the place I had just left. Somehow, this experience stirred me into action. I realized I had to fight hard to resist this suggestion of giving up, not just on my job but on life itself. I had had enough of the constant pain, and after noticing the tasks I needed to accomplish, I slowly began to clean my home.
