Pondering the Bible’s prophecies, promises, and proofs heals

From the November 2018 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Prophecies, promises, and proofs—the Bible is chock full of all three. “The three p’s,” I call them. And they’re important! In a message to her church in Concord, New Hampshire, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, urged the members to have “unfaltering faith in the prophecies, promises, and proofs of Holy Writ,” and linked this with being “steadfast in Christ” (see The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 155). Certainly her life shows the healing results of being alive to and trusting these elements of Scripture, even in the most trying times.

As a new student of Christian Science, I wanted to be steadfast in Christ, and Mrs. Eddy’s admonition alerted me to look for the prophecies, promises, and proofs, and hug and hold them. In so doing, I’ve learned how helpful they are to our demonstrating this Christ Science. And why.

Every Bible prophecy, promise, and proof is God-impelled and God-communicated. The authority of each is God’s omnipotence; the communication of each is His Christ; and the communicator of each is the Holy Ghost, divine Science. All three are His revelation of His Word and its ever-advancing mission of universal salvation. And all three are essential to our spiritual growth.
