“Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,” wrote Robert Frost in his poem “Mending Wall.” And I certainly shared that sentiment the other day as I thought about the walls of separation that seem to sprout up in so many ways—between family members, political and cultural groups, communities, and nations.
But as I prayed about this, I realized there is not, never has been, and never will be a wall of separation between God and man, or between God’s children. Since we are all God’s image, each an idea of the divine Mind, there can be no wall or obstruction between us as spiritual ideas. We are all one with God and one with each other.
Oneness is such an important concept to understand in healing all kinds of problems, including divisiveness, and in establishing progress, including progress in building peace. How grateful I am to Christ Jesus for his gentle prayer for his followers, “I pray they will be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (John 17:21, Common English Bible).
