I was having a panic attack on a 16-hour flight to India. In the restroom, trying to gather my thoughts, I was gripped with fear that I might not be able to function on this physically challenging trip I’d planned months before.
My wife and I and another couple had scheduled nature hikes, walks on busy city streets, and visits to forts, museums, palaces, and shrines. These would include stairs and stone, dirt, and gravel pathways of various heights and slopes. We would be traveling by boats, trains, and planes, and even jeeps and lorries on safari. I might even have to use stirrups to mount elephants and camels.
My thoughts were consumed with why I felt I wasn’t going to be able to do any of these things. I was experiencing severe pain in my groin, which made sitting, crossing my legs, and even walking down the aisle of the airplane difficult.
