Something I am continually learning more about is the blessings that come through membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. When one joins a branch church, it is so much more than simply signing a membership book and agreeing to support the church financially and prayerfully. It is more than just agreeing to hold an office, chair a committee, or teach Sunday School. Those are all important aspects of membership, but there is something more to it. When we really embrace church membership in our hearts, something happens.
Behind it all is not simply fellowship, as uplifting as that can be, but healing.
Joining a branch church for me has been like putting my hand in those of my fellow members—them taking my hand and me taking theirs. It is a special relationship we have with one another. There is a kinship between us stemming from a mutual love for God; a mutual desire to follow Christ, Truth; a mutual commitment to the Science of Christ discovered and founded by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; and a mutual desire to bless the world. We have made a commitment to all these things. We are journeying together, all traveling in the same direction, striving to better understand and demonstrate divine Truth. There is a trust between us that we can turn to each other in need and we will each be there for one another. We love one another.
