It’s about healing, not the numbers

From the February 2020 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus’ ministry started with only a few disciples, but this work brought about profound healing. Centuries after, creed and dogma seemed to hide Christian healing, but Christ’s teachings were not forever silenced.

Today, modern Christians of the Church of Christ, Scientist, are continuing the healing practice of the early disciples. The many volumes of the Christian Science Sentinel and Journal catalog well over a hundred years of present-day Christian healings. The Leader of this Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy, devoted her life to showing all mankind how to learn and practice Christ’s healing method. In the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy writes: “In our age Christianity is again demonstrating the power of divine Principle, as it did over nineteen hundred years ago, by healing the sick and triumphing over death” (p. 232).

The number of people who love Jesus’ mission and teachings is not important. To be part of this healing movement is a great privilege. I love the fact that it did not take thousands of followers for Christ Jesus’ teachings to take root. Instead, it took great dedication.

When I was a little girl, I loved every minute of Sunday School, even if my sister and I were sometimes the only ones there. It was our dedication to living what Christ Jesus taught that mattered.

The dedication of the members at our present branch Church of Christ, Scientist, has blossomed into the church’s restoration. Our duties are shared, so there is no burden on anyone, and our church is debt-free. Every week the members share an abundance of testimonies, such as the permanent healing of migraines and protection from accidents.

The inspiration that we share and the love that is expressed are joyous and seamless. We are bonded together—loving our little town and sharing our gratitude for the many healings and ideas each week. We love being part of the Christian Science movement. It is absolutely the best. I see no better way to honor Jesus’ teachings than to continue in the healing ministry he has entrusted to his followers.
