At the end of a lengthy walk I decided to get a late lunch at one of my favorite restaurants. The place was quiet, and during my meal I could not help but overhear part of a conversation between two ladies who were sitting close by. One lady was expressing doubts about her faith in God, and this was concerning to her since her faith had been very important to her. Her friend was offering some support and counseling.
I realized during the course of my meal that I was beginning to silently pray about this, since we have, at times, perhaps, all faced doubts about our faith, and naturally want to know and feel God’s presence. Immediately these words from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal came to mind:
He [God] knows the angels that you need,
And sends them to your side,
To comfort, guard and guide.
