“Pause, and calmly think of that”

From the November 2022 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The word selah is used over 70 times in the book of Psalms. I had always overlooked it, until I became First Reader at my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and I began to search the Bible more deeply in preparation for the Sunday and Wednesday services.

The Amplified Bible (Classic Edition) explains the meaning of this word as “pause, and calmly think of that.”

The word selah is a fresh way to remind myself, as I study and pray, to “pause, and calmly think” about and listen to the spiritual ideas that are coming to me.
