Testimonies of Healing

Foot unharmed by weight of car

From the April 2023 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was 10:00 p.m. and time to pick my daughter up from work, so I went out to the garage. I had just closed my car’s back passenger door lightly and was in the driver’s seat with the car in reverse, when a warning light came on, indicating that the back door was not completely closed. I pressed the button to place the car in park, then got out to close the door firmly. Suddenly, I was lying prone on the garage floor. Evidently I had not pushed the brake pedal all the way down when pressing the park button, because the car had slowly rolled backward, knocking me down and pinning my left foot and ankle under one of the wheels.

I was alone, with no way to free myself from the weight of the car. However, I had just attended a Wednesday Christian Science testimony meeting, so rather than being filled with fear, my thoughts were flooded with a sense of the presence of God, divine Love. I felt no pain, just the heavy pressure of the car on my ankle and foot.

I tried to push the car forward, but it wouldn’t budge. I was on the floor for 10 or 15 minutes, and many helpful thoughts came to me, including the first verse of Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” At that point, I said, “Actually, Lord, I want this car removed from my foot.” Immediately the thought came, “No, you don’t. Matter has no power nor weight.” That insight startled me, bringing a chuckle.
