“I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High” (Psalms 7:17, New International Version). Giving thanks and praise to God is conveyed markedly throughout the Bible. And in today’s times of great need, it is even more significant as it breaks through the mesmerism of discord and awakens thought to the healing and progress already at hand.
The type of gratitude and praise to God exemplified in the life and healings of Jesus and articulated in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, is a Christianly scientific form of prayer based on revelation, reason, and demonstration. It is scientific, as it enables us to demonstrate “perfect God and perfect man” (Science and Health, p. 259), allowing us to see that what is spiritually true is already present. The Principle behind both praising and giving thanks to God is provable, and its healing effects are repeatable.
This form of prayer gives unequivocal consent to God’s omnipotence. Glorifying God through praise and thanksgiving is not mere emotionalism, nor is it a transactional pleading with God for material things, but it is an absolute acknowledgment of God’s supremacy.
