Equality: The prodigal and his brother

From the May 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal


While he was a great way off,
his father began to run. 
The prodigal had returned, 
and father united with son.   

When his brother heard the news, 
the sound of celebration, 
he refused to enter his father’s house, 
perhaps giving this explanation: 

“My purity is unsurpassed, 
my obedience outstanding, 
my fidelity to truth unmatched; 
why isn’t my father applauding?
