Several years ago, soon after an illness from which I was healed through prayer, I began experiencing some hair loss. I recalled something Christ Jesus told his disciples that shows the depth of God’s care for us, even the hairs of our head. He said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29–31).
Although I wasn’t fearful, I noticed that more hair than usual was coming out when I shampooed, and much more when I brushed my hair. My normally abundant hair was quickly thinning, and when I returned to my hairdresser for a haircut, she mentioned her concern. I continued to pray.
One evening, as I reached out to God wholeheartedly, the second verse of a familiar hymn came to mind:
