Not sunburned—sun-blessed

From the May 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Midsummer days in Colorado can be particularly hot and dry. And although late afternoon storms offer respite, it’s usually only for a few minutes, then it’s back to bluebird skies and bright sun.

Many flowers—columbine, Russian sage, and my favorites, poppies—thrive here.

One day years ago, the skin on my shoulders was particularly tender from a long day in the sun. But as I watched a lovely poppy swaying in the breeze, I saw what would alter my perception of the sun’s effects forever.
