God’s kingdom—our holy ground

From the May 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever wondered about the gospel, or good news, of God’s kingdom that Christ Jesus preached? I wanted to know more about this good news because I noticed that when Jesus taught and preached about the kingdom of God, all types of healing followed.

In my Christian Science study, I began to really pay attention to what was being said in the Bible and in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy about the kingdom of God, or the kingdom of heaven, and particularly what she said in the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. As I did this, I started to understand more of what Jesus meant when he told the Pharisees, “The kingdom of God never comes by watching for it. Men cannot say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘there it is,’ for the kingdom of God is inside you” (Luke 17:20, 21, J. B. Phillips, The New Testament in Modern English). This kingdom, or holy ground, is not just a future hope or a symbolic idea—it is a present reality, and we can experience it now.

I realized that every moment where the awareness of God’s law reigns within me, I am standing on holy ground, and God’s government is operating in my life, here and now. In the Bible, we read that God says, “I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33). As I really put into practice what I was learning, I began to feel and see results—I experienced wonderful opportunities to stand on holy ground and witness God’s law.
