Steadfastly Demonstrating the Laws of God

From the June 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God's laws, the laws maintaining the harmonious order of His perfect universe, are here to be brought out in daily living. There is no guesswork in this demonstration. The Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, studied side by side, make its rules plain. Its purpose goes beyond physical, moral, environmental healing, important though these are, to meet the deepest need of all. Demonstration in Christian Science is the way we find God, behold more and more of His perfection, realize His omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience.

Holding to this deeper purpose sustains the Christian Science healer. Too often one is tempted to stop too soon, right in the middle of demonstrating God's law— not going far enough or high enough, admitting defeat before one is really well started. It often takes more courage, patience, perseverance, and joy to complete a demonstration, but if one follows through, victory is assured. Mrs. Eddy told one of her classes: "I am glad you enjoy the dawn of Christian Science; you must reach its meridian. Watch, pray, demonstrate."The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 254;

Through knowing God, we know man, made in His likeness, and this enables us to demonstrate in human lives the perfect law of God. We may wonder what our relation to this law of God is, our responsibility in making it effective. The answer is in one word—obedience!
