Dear Fellow Members and Friends, Words simply can’t express our gratitude for the contribution our colleague J. Thomas Black, C.
Throughout the history of The Mother Church, in times of national and international emergencies, the Church has reached out to those in need. The Church’s “first responders” are a dedicated team of TMC employees in several departments and include the Christian Science Board of Directors.
In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy provides for the continuity of her teaching through the establishment of the Board of Education. Article XXIX, Section 2, states: “Loyal Christian Scientists’ pupils who so desire may apply to the Board of Education for instruction; and if they have practised Christian Science healing successfully three years and will furnish evidence of their eligibility therefor, they are eligible to enter the Normal class.
We wanted to let you know that our dear friend and colleague Warren Bolon passed on July 28. All those who had the privilege of knowing Warren will remember his kindness, his calm and thoughtful presence, his astute metaphysical insight—and a host of other unique and wonderful qualities.
We’re so grateful for our readers’ and listeners’ love and support of Sentinel Radio, and want to share some upcoming changes that will take place in early 2012. These changes will offer local broadcast groups both lower costs and find new opportunities for reaching the public, as well as prepare The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Herald (JSH) for the launch of the new subscription JSH Online edition.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Kohler, of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, as the new Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society. She will succeed Scott Preller, CSB, who has been elected President of the Board of Education.
It is with unbounded gratitude, admiration, and love for Olga Chaffee, CSB, that the Christian Science Board of Directors informs you that after six years of outstanding service on the Board of Education, Olga is returning to her primary work of Christian Science practice and teaching. Olga’s practical affection for Christian Science teachers and for their associations worldwide has been extraordinary.
As humanity gets increasingly drawn to the Web as the go-to source for information and connections, how important is it to listen to a speaker in person? The feedback we receive regarding live lectures clearly shows that the preparation for these events, the contacts that are made, and the resulting opportunity to experience the shared effect of collective prayer retains a unique and valued purpose. When people gather together in one room with a single focus—to listen to a message grounded in Love—something special is felt.
The Mother Church receives lots of questions on a great variety of subjects. One subject that comes up pretty regularly has to do with disbursement of funds from international “trusts” (located in the UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, and Germany).
Dear Fellow Members and Friends, Once again, I have the happy privilege of writing you to share news of today’s [June 6] admission of new members. Admission takes place at a regular business meeting of the Christian Science Board of Directors and is required in the Church Manual.
