To the community in which it is given, a Christian Science lecture brings a message of hope and healing, for its purpose is spiritually to uplift and enlighten human consciousness and to awaken thought to a better understanding of God and of man and the universe as His perfect creation. A lecture explains the practical value of Christian Science when applied to problems of whatever nature and proclaims the actuality of good, which counteracts the fables of material sense and destroys them.

These influences come from materialistic political or economic systems, from overextended natural sciences, and even from thoughtful and deeply concerned Christian theologians.
