Mary Baker Eddy makes a comforting and spiritually rousing statement when, in speaking of the man of God's creating, the real and only man there is, she says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 518 ): "His birthright is dominion, not subjection.
Doubtless great numbers of people in the world today are fearfully and anxiously regarding the state of world affairs and the threat of possible atomic war and disaster and wondering, "What can we do to escape this threatening danger?" Many perhaps feel impotent and hopeless. The student of Christian Science, however, in this as in any and every difficulty turns naturally to God.
When Naaman, the captain of the host of the king of Syria, came to the prophet Elisha to seek healing for his leprosy, his pride was apparently greatly hurt because Elisha did not appear before him, but simply sent him the message ( II Kings 5:10 ), "Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. " Naaman angrily refused to have recourse to the simple direction of the prophet until his servants pointed out to him that if the prophet had asked him to do some great thing, he would have done it.
Students of Christian Science find that there is nothing more satisfying than to be successful in the healing work—to help others to know themselves spiritually. But before we can help others, we must know ourselves correctly.

The Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy contain many exhortations to resist evil in its various guises and indicate the blessedness and joyous reward of obedience to such injunctions. For example, James said ( 4:7 ): "Submit yourselves therefore to God.
The student of Christian Science need A not be fearful or helpless before the elements, for he knows how to apply his understanding of the truths of spiritual being to the weather or the elements just as he applies it to any other phase of daily living. He does not attempt to control the elements; he recognizes that God governs all and that His government is supreme and kind.
Creation is the sum total of God's complete manifestation—from a flower to a star, from the earth to the cosmos, from the infinitesimal to the infinite. Creation is universal substance in all its variety, form, color, continuity, beauty, and glory.
The Bible tells us that God is Love. In James we read ( 1:17 ), "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
When one meets a friend or an acquaintance, he gives an immediate gesture of recognition or acknowledgment. This is a part of daily experience.
