Students of Christian Science prove its truths in different ways. One individual may find liberation from a physical ill as he discerns man's God-given dominion of good.
With the free world seeking an adequate way to defend itself against mental and physical aggression, it is well to consider whether a spiritual defense, based on the omnipotence of God, divine Love, is not the real answer to the world's problem. The Bible tells us that Esau and Jacob, enemies because of early treachery on Jacob's part, were reconciled when Jacob's materiality, avarice, and fear yielded to a spiritual sense of things, and he saw man as God's reflection.
Through the ages mankind have been searching for substance—some for material wealth, others for gain along various lines; but the more general search is for worldly security. Believing that matter is real and accepting the false picture of the physical senses, mortals create for themselves periods of abundance and then of its antipode, lack, and also believe falsely that substance is both mental and material.
The only real claims on man are God's claims, and these are unalterably and eternally good claims. This important spiritual fact must be remembered.
" The attributes of God are justice, mercy, wisdom, goodness, and so on. " So states Mary Baker Eddy on page 465 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
There is never a limited man! The Scriptures declare that man is made in God's image and likeness. They also state that God is infinite.
The Scriptures, spiritually understood, reveal that Christliness is the gauge of true worthiness and that ascension above materiality is mankind's necessity. The belief in material existence, however, has so beclouded human consciousness that today there appears to be a tendency to seek advancement or an improved status through means other than individually earned merit.
" The Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend" ( Ex. 33:11 ).
Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, with her usual foresight and wisdom, made provision through the Manual of The Mother Church for the Christian Science nurse. In Article VIII, Section 31, of the Manual she writes: "A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick.
