Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

FREEDOM FROM THE ILLUSION OF BONDAGE

A familiar example of the illusory nature of bondage is to be found in the account of a bear in a zoo that had for a long time been confined in a small cage. Presently the bear was moved to a much larger enclosure, where he had a good deal more space and no bars were apparent.

THE CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST'S MEDICINE

How reassuring it is to know that Christian Science does not ask us to give up the only truly effective medicine, for Christian Science affords us the same medicine which Jesus employed with such remarkable results. Its potency is evidenced in numberless healings, such as those recorded in Matthew (15:30, 31) : "Great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

THE WORD MADE FLESH

" The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory" ( John 1:14 ). Thus John tells us of what he knew, saw, and loved; and he presents it in his particular style, a style which is unique in its economical use of words, but which conveys the awe of the wonderful things he has to say (1:1): "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

SPIRITUAL FACT AND DEMONSTRATION

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives the definition of Elias ( p. 585 ): "Prophecy; spiritual evidence opposed to material sense; Christian Science, with which can be discerned the spiritual fact of whatever the material senses behold; the basis of immortality.

THE PURITY OF BEING

Purity is a quality before which mankind stand somewhat in awe because to them its unadulterated character seems unattainable. Yet purity is a quality of God, and as such must be a quality which man, God's reflection, includes.

TRUE IDENTITY REVEALED

One can identify himself or others as God's image and likeness only by accepting Christ Jesus' identification of the son of God as spiritual and immortal. By an orderly succession of demonstrations of spiritual reality, including the healing of sickness and sin, the transfiguration, resurrection, and ascension, the Master proved that the identity of the children of God is entirely separate from and higher than any beliefs of life and soul in matter.

DEMONSTRATING DIVINE PRINCIPLE, LOVE

Mary Baker Eddy has throughout her writings used the term Principle as one of the synonyms for God. To the neophyte in Christian Science this synonym may seem cold and abstract, but as one progresses Spiritward the understanding of divine Principle becomes precious to him because of what it conveys of solidity and consistency.

ACKNOWLEDGING THE KINGDOM WITHIN

What and where is the kingdom of heaven, that we may seek and truly find it? Christ Jesus answered this question for all mankind. He said ( Luke 17: 20, 21 ), "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

FULFILLING THE LAW OF LOVE

In the closing days of his career our blessed Master gave his disciples some of the most important of all his teachings. From the fourteenth through the seventeenth chapters of John's Gospel we find words of admonition by Christ Jesus to his chosen few, as well as prayers that they might see the light of Truth as he had seen it.

A PRACTICAL RELIGION

Christian Science is the most practical religion that has appeared in the world since the days of the Master. That may seem at first to be a very broad statement.
