The story told of the words and works of the Bible characters, including the profound teachings and demonstrations of Christ Jesus, and the record of the related activities of Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, present the most inspiring and enlightening of all narratives. Actually to find and prove the unchangeable presence and power of God, infinite good, available to men under any and all circumstances, as recorded in the Scriptures and now revealed and practiced through Christian Science, brings cause for great rejoicing.
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. " By this striking simile the writer of the book of Proverbs stressed the value of wise and timely speech.
" God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. " These words point to the fact that God, Mind, who is everywhere, is manifested as spiritual light.
" Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. " The home which is built through wisdom must be primarily a mental structure, the foundation of which is laid in the spiritual understanding of God.
It is well known that incompatible elements are incapable of commingling harmoniously. For this reason the good and evil tendencies inherent in human nature can never truly unite; much less can these opposites dwell together permanently.
Mary Baker Eddy in setting forth her teaching has declared God to be divine Mind, and man, His creation, the idea of divine Mind. Upon page 115 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," man is defined as "God's spiritual idea, individual, perfect, eternal.
Who has not felt the stimulating and fruitful effects of attacking individual and community tasks with quick decision and courage? And who has not experienced the blighting, demoralizing results of the negative, obstructive attitude, the unwillingness to blend one's efforts with others in the accomplishment of some common good? The latter tendency, due to a rapidly shrinking world, appears to be assuming the proportions of a major problem—for the individual, the nation, and the world. Literally millions of people are beginning to sense the situation and are asking what can be done about it.
As is well known, the book of Revelation is often termed "the Apocalypse," and is rightly so called when we realize that this is simply a brief way of referring to the Apocalypse of John. "Apocalypse" (which derives from the Greek word "Apokalupsis" —meaning "revelation") was a name given to a specific type of literature consisting largely of the visions of the narrator.
