Every Christian Scientist has the remarkable privilege of praying intelligently every day for himself and for the world. Through the revelations of this Science and its spiritual insights into the Bible, we can bring to bear upon human experience the truth of one perfect God and His perfect, spiritual creation.
In the fast pace of our present world many of us have a tendency to glide lightly over the surface of daily happenings—at times almost unaware of our fellowman. Yet in all walks of life there are those inwardly yearning for a better sense of well-being, security, and purpose.
We may yearn for the inspiration that allows us to feel the full impact of the original message in Bible stories and to apply the lessons learned to our own daily living. If we do, it is often helpful to consider the effect of environmental conditions on Biblical imagery.
What is the real church work? Are we bringing the light of Christ to our community? So often we get involved with the routine procedures of church committees and meetings, which are necessary to the workings of a church, but we neglect the true work of the Church. Christian caring and sharing, which promote healing for each other and the community, are really our true church work.
ACTION IN THE FIELD The following experiences were sent from a branch church in Western Australia. We have many people who come to our Reading Room feeling a sense of loss— loss of dignity, hope, faith, of someone they love dearly, or perhaps a loss of the true sense of substance or joy.
Doesn't it bring a feeling of relief and peace to recognize that our real identity is spiritual, immortal, perfect! After all of our longing to be identified as one who has dignity and dominion, we learn from the Bible and the teachings of Christian Science that these characteristics are inherent in our true identity now and forever. We learn it is natural for us to express fearlessness, brilliance, intelligence, and beauty.
You do something kind and thoughtful for another and receive no thanks. Friends and family members rarely call or answer your letters.
Two workers are about to take their lunch break. As they sit down with their lunch pails, one flatly states, "Sure hope this is a good lunch—I'd love something really delicious.
