"Facing the winds"

A workable knowledge of God is urgently needed when one is facing a storm of fear or pain. Speaking of God, the Bible states: "For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

A symphony of ideas

For centuries human beings have been observing how they resemble the creatures that walk, swim, and fly about them. People sometimes think of themselves as animals with two legs and certain other distinguishing characteristics.

No "third person"

A dualistic sense of being is as old as thought and has been dramatized in the familiar tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.

Don't be lured from Wednesday testimony meetings!

It's surprising when you think about it. Yes, Wednesday evening testimony meetings are times for rejoicing, for telling how Truth's power has helped and healed us, to share and to learn from others the insights that have been gained as a result of practicing Christian Science.

Day to remember

Do you remember a special moment of spiritual awakening that may have come after days or even years of prayer? A moment when the desert of human hopes blossomed, and what had seemed a heavy belief of sin or sickness was proved powerless? This was a sabbath day! Remember it and keep it holy! Those days of struggling to get out of the belief of living in matter may seem long and difficult, but our day of rest in Truth does come. Mrs.

Stand steadfast

Sometimes it's hard to keep sticking up for things we believe in. Outright attack, lingering discomfort, or propaganda can tempt us to compromise our standards—including our adherence to Christian Science.

Destroying fear's pseudo-authority

No one would willingly let himself be invaded by sickness, but if consciousness—the government of the body—is first undermined and then replaced with fear, an incursion by disease may seem possible, legitimate, and unstoppable. The puppet government of fear will, until destroyed by Truth, seem to justify the takeover by arguing in support of the superior power of illness and against the effectiveness of God's government.

Being at the creation

Spiritual creation unfolds progressively through eternity. It is not an event occupying a specific interval of time, nor is it an occurrence confined to a unique point in history.

Class instruction

Even a momentary glimpse of the power of Truth awakens in the student of Christian Science a desire to learn more about God, man, and spiritual reality. As the student progresses, he yearns to dig still deeper into the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy and become more systematic and effective in his study and practice.
