Relying on God can help us with interpersonal relationships that cause difficulties in the workplace. On one occasion, I was assigned to work with an individual who had a reputation for being belligerent, provocative, and difficult to be around.

The week my mom passed on, the subject of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly was “Probation After Death. ” You know, it felt a bit unsettling, the thought that my sweet mom could now be “on probation.

Many people are familiar with Christ Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son, found in chapter 15 of Luke’s Gospel (see verses 11–32 ). It’s the story of a young man who asks for his inheritance and receives it, leaves his father and older brother behind, and goes off to live a new, “riotous” life elsewhere.

When I was about eight years old, I was lying on my mom’s bed watching her iron. I asked myself, “Why should I be good?” Quickly the thought came, “Because it is right to be good!” I immediately accepted that idea.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science, reasons: “If God, or good, is real, then evil, the unlikeness of God, is unreal” ( Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 470 ).

Sometimes ads for services by handymen or other craftspeople contain the slogan “No job too small!” As someone who’s not a do-it-yourself kind of guy around the house, I always appreciate seeing those words. They reassure me that I don’t have to feel embarrassed about asking for help.

When God speaks to us, what do we hear?

Dear Reader:  Authenticity. People want real, honest communication—whether it’s between friends or in discussions on social and commercial media.

More and more I’ve been working on staying in an absolute consciousness of Love during every moment, every interaction. One of the synonyms for God is Love, and as I continue my study of Christian Science, I grow more certain that Love is the only power and is governing every aspect of my life.

Some time ago I planted corn on a quarter-acre plot. Sixty days later my field showed promising signs of an abundant and high-quality harvest.
