Dear Reader, Some years back, it was announced that the time between when the copy of the Christian Science Sentinel is finalized and the cover date on the magazine would be reduced from several months to several weeks. As a regular reader and occasional writer for the magazine, I was thrilled that the articles could be more timely.

A year ago our family was joyously awaiting the arrival of a new addition. However, as my daughter’s due date came and went, she became uncomfortable and anxious.

A year or two after graduating from college, I was sharing an apartment with my sister and working part time. At one point my car needed to be in the shop for nearly a week, and upon hearing this news a kind family from church lent me their extra vehicle.

I have had the privilege of teaching in different Christian Science Sunday Schools over many years. This has shown me how well children respond to consideration, compassion, and love.

March is Women’s History Month in the United States, and this year it honors the suffragists, whose valiant efforts gained women the right to vote. Over a span of eighty years these women tirelessly wrote, gave speeches, marched, and even went to prison in support of their cause, which culminated in the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution granting all citizens the same voting rights regardless of gender.

We may feel it’s become easy to drift along, entranced by materialism. But materialism dulls us to the real joys of living, and it may bring into question our commitment to God, and even make us indifferent to our own spiritual nature.

As a Christian Science nurse, I sometimes encounter challenging cases. But I am always grateful for the immense spiritual growth that takes place in my own thinking while I’m helping another.
