Sunday School thoughts

When I was young, I didn't get to attend Sunday School as often as I would have liked. I felt a sense of loss, because I didn't have the Sunday School experience that would have taught me the Bible and its spiritual interpretation.

Riding the Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island is more exciting than flying solo across the Atlantic Ocean—at least that's what Charles Lindbergh, the first man ever to make such a solo flight nonstop, reportedly said. The coaster's wooden supports creak; the cars slowly climb a steep incline; then they pass the crest and hurtle down the 85-foot first drop, the speed increasing and the passengers screaming.

Embracing the outcast

We've Seen the pictures: a young couple enjoying each other's company; a sports team and fans celebrating a victory; a family gathered for a festive occasion. Everyone belongs.

Could you imagine a Christian Science Sunday School at a shopping mall? Or maybe at a coffeehouse or soccer field? The notion seems pretty incongruous. But something can be said for these locations: they're often filled with potential Sunday School students.

So Much Has been written about the millennium that many people just don't pay attention anymore. But, as the editorial in this issue of the Journal notes, the millennium that Mary Baker Eddy speaks of is certainly worthy of attention.

A WONDERFUL COMING together of adult church members and Sunday School pupils occurred during the time that Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist, Houston, built a new edifice to better meet their current needs. While the physical building was going on, the whole church kept pace metaphysically by building a spiritual sense of Church in their hearts.

BUILDING PROJECTS ARE under way in numerous churches, and this has prompted considerable interest in understanding what ensures successful church building and rebuilding. RESTORATION and RENEWAL It's not surprising that Mary Baker Eddy's published writings include some very helpful insights on this subject.
