Poems
Go forth unto the sowing With courage in your heart, The Lord will walk before you, His wisdom to impart. He'll set His cloud above you When garish grows the day, And when the darkness gathers, His fire will light the way.
He that loses his life shall find it again, Free of the folly and fear, the sorrow and pain. He that loses the world, the lure of its gold and its greed, Shall find the riches of Love that meeteth all human need.
Who shall be rescued, who shall be saved, When the terrible day of the Lord shall come; What of the wicked and weak and depraved, What of the blind and the dumb? We unto deafness have prophesied, For the deaf are leading the blind astray; Truth have we spoken to those who have lied And walked in an evil way. Verily truth shall win in its fight, And all are safe whom the truth defends; Nations in darkness shall come into light, And enemies learn to be friends.
The twelve disciples could not cure the lad Whose anxious father came to them for aid, For they could see but hopeless lunacy, Instead of perfect man, whom God had made. The loving Master did not seek to heal A grave disease, as those less wise had done, But to establish Love's impartial law, Which holds man safe as God's beloved son.
When mortal dreams would bind and fetter me, Or fear my pathway bars, My waiting heart I lift to thoughts of Thee, And in the calm of Thy tranquillity, I walk amid the stars.
Draw nigh to God with a humble heart, And He will draw nigh to you. His is the power; your only part Striving His will to do.
Are you wearied with earth's turmoil, Is your heart filled with despair? Get ye up into the mountain By the path of silent prayer. Steppingstones of holy thinking Guide you to the light above, Till you reach the glorious summit Of the mount of Truth and Love.
In glistering robes He rides upon the night, Above the winds that strive upon the sea. His chariot wheels like burning fires move bright Above a world in turmoil to be free; Above a world in turmoil in the dark, Where fear and famine struggle with the beast And strive throughout the troubled night, nor mark The glimmer of His chariot in the east.
I thank Thee for this holy morning hour Alone with Thee, Wherein I learn to know and do Thy will, Obediently. Illumined by Truth's light, divinely led, I see the way, And go securely folded in Thy care, All through the day.
How do I know that God is here? Ah! like a benediction sweet, In quiet room or crowded street I hold communion close and dear! Then 'tis as if a friend should say, "I am at hand to guard and guide, Strong and protecting at your side; Go forth rejoicing all the day!" Have there been times of trial and stress? Yes, but I reach and find His arm; I am upheld and safe from harm, While His still voice corrects to bless. How do I know that God is here? By earth and sky, and bird and flower, Beauty of life that fills each hour— Promise of that which shall appear! Well do I know that God is here By His command to forward go, As courage new from Him doth flow, Bringing a "Peace, be still," to fear.
